New and established Liberty faces gathered at the gracious Grade I-listed Boreham House in Chelmsford for a superb day of advice and networking.
The beautiful building, approached by a stately avenue of trees, was the perfect setting for the event which kicked off at 10am.
Stephen Wright of St. James’s Place was the first to speak, giving guests important background information about St. James’s Place.
Stephen also looked at fluctuations of the investment markets over the previous 18 months, as well as examining investment solutions and investing for income. A fascinating insight into the role of Investment Management rounded up this part of the presentation.
The keynote subject of Inheritance Tax was Stephen’s focus for the second part of his time in front of the audience. He reported that in the 2013/2014 tax year alone, the Government collected a massive £3.1 billion through IHT. Careful investment planning along with a well written Will can significantly reduce or even mitigate this tax, according to Stephen.
The second speaker was Sabrina Kahn from Octopus, a trusted and highly valued partner of St. James’s Place who specialise in non-trust based inheritance tax planning.
Sabrina was able to show how use of Business Property Relief can be an ideal way of planning against IHT. Used correctly, she explained, it speedily benefits the investor as it gives 100% IHT relief in just two years. Investors can make regular or ad hoc withdrawals, making the system flexible and simple.
The seminar was brought to a close by Liberty Director Lee Devonald at 1pm, after which guests enjoyed a buffet lunch, catching up with old friends and making new contacts.
Lee and the Liberty team would like to thank everyone who attended the event, as well as sending particular thanks to everyone who took time to fill out and return the feedback forms. The comments will be used to ensure that future events cover the topics and take the format that is most relevant and enjoyable to Liberty Wealth Management clients.
